The short answer
On a high-cycle machine, noise and walking are usually installation and loading before they are bearings: feet out of level or unlocked, a floor that moves, or loads that users bundle into one side. A genuine bearing or suspension failure sounds different and gets steadily worse.
What the machine is doing
- It walks across the floor during the spin — Levelling and load distribution, in that order.
- A deep rumble that grows through the spin and never stops — Drum bearing wear, and it worsens month on month.
- A hard knock during tumble at low speed — Something in the drum, or a suspension element that has let go.
- A grinding that changes when the drum is turned by hand — Confirms it is mechanical rather than hydraulic.
- Loud only with certain loads — Loading habits rather than the machine.

- Turn the drum by hand and listen and feel — Grinding or roughness by hand points at the bearing.
- Push the drum up and down at the front — Excessive movement is suspension, not balance.

Before anything is opened
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. These machines are heavy; do not tilt or walk one on your own, and never run a cycle with a panel removed. Close the water supply before touching any hose or fitting.
When to call
Call when the rumble persists with the feet set and the load controlled, and particularly when turning the drum by hand feels rough. Bearing work on a commercial washer is a planned job and it is cheaper before the drum starts contacting the tub. Call at once if the machine moves far enough to strain its hoses or supply connections, because a broken hose in a laundry room is a flood and not just a noise.
