The short answer
The seal, the catch and the hinge each produce a different version of the same symptom. On an Electrolux dryer the order that matters is this: "A worn latch" first, then the rest of the list below. A documented platform reports faults as codes, so the ranking below starts from what the control itself is able to tell you.
What you actually observe
- The door needs a firm push to hold — It is only just engaging. Whether it happens constantly or in bursts changes the answer.
- Lint collecting on the door frame — Air is escaping there.
- The door has become harder to close — Something has built up. Compare it with what the cabinet did a month ago.
- NEAR MISS — the gap is uneven round the door — The door is not square. If that is your Electrolux dryer, the bottom of the ranking below is where to start — and this may not be the nearest page for it.
Causes, most likely first on an Electrolux dryer
- A worn latch — Ranked first. It is quick to see once the door is examined. Rank it here on an Electrolux dryer whatever a general troubleshooting list says.
- A hardened door seal — Ranked second. It is visible and it is cheap to inspect.
- A fouled door face — Ranked third. Lint compacted into the seal channel holds the door out by a fraction and lets heat straight out. This is one of the answers an Electrolux dryer owner can act on without a technician.
- The door has dropped — Ranked last of the four. It is worth checking before a seal is replaced.
Check in this order, and why
- Step one: Close the door and pull on it gently to test the catch. — It costs nothing, and every check below it is read wrongly if this one was never done on an Electrolux dryer.
- Step two: Feel the seal for flattened or missing sections. — It narrows the Electrolux dryer list to a single candidate in most cases.
- Step three: Check the door face for compacted lint. — It is where an Electrolux dryer diagnosis goes once the obvious causes have been cleared.
The checks you can do yourself
- Test the catch by pulling the closed door — A door that releases under light pull will release under tumbling.
About 10 min
- Clean the seal and the mating face — Lint packed into the seal keeps it from closing.
Tools: cloth, vacuumAbout 15 min
- Vacuum the seal channel and door face — Work round the whole opening and into the filter slot.

- Stop at the first step that needs a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner side of an Electrolux dryer check ends and a service call begins; nothing past it is on this page.

Safety
None of the checks on this Electrolux dryer page require a live appliance. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Let the appliance come down to room temperature before reaching inside; a cavity or a drum holds heat long after a cycle ends. Never run the appliance with a panel removed, and never work around the door switch to keep it running with the door open. Do not test elements or terminals with the appliance energised, and do not bridge a protective device that has operated.
When to call a technician
The boundary on an Electrolux dryer is worth stating as a condition rather than as advice. Ducts, filters, seals, loads and settings are the owner side; elements, thermostats, protective devices and terminal blocks are not. If a check needs nothing more than your hands, a vacuum and a torch, it is yours; if it needs a meter on a live terminal, it is a technician.

What is deliberately not here
This page is written for the Electrolux dryer as a class rather than for one family or one model line. A page written for one Electrolux dryer family beats this one wherever it exists, and it is linked from here rather than hidden. The Electrolux Dryer Problems overview links them together. Left out on purpose: the model-specific figures — part numbers, wiring detail and the service-mode entry sequence — which are only correct for one family and would be wrong here.
