The short answer
An EdgeStar ventless compact dryer that ends its cycle early, or stops part-way, is usually protecting itself. A full condensate tank locks the cycle out, and a blocked condenser opens a thermal cut-out that ends the cycle cold. Most likely causes on a ventless compact dryer, in order
- The condensate tank full — first, because the control locks the cycle out deliberately when it has nowhere to put the water, and it does so mid-cycle rather than at the start
- A blocked condenser opening a thermal cut-out — restricted airflow raises the temperature in the loop, the cut-out opens, and the cycle ends cold — the most common genuine cause and one that requires cooling before it will restart
- Moisture sensing on a small or synthetic load — a sensor cycle stops when the load reads dry, and a small or fast-drying load can satisfy it long before a timed cycle would end
- Sensor bars coated with softener residue — a film on the bars makes the load read dry when it is not, and the signature is a cycle that ends early every time regardless of load
- The door latch bouncing — a compact dryer on an uneven floor can lose the door signal momentarily, and the control abandons the cycle without explanation
What to check, and why in this order
- Empty the tank and note whether the cycle now runs to completion — A tank lock-out is both the most common cause and the fastest to eliminate
- Clean the condenser and the lint filter next. — If the machine was cutting out on temperature it will need to cool fully before it restarts, and that delay is itself diagnostic
- Wipe the sensor bars and run a timed rather than a sensor cycle — That distinguishes a sensing fault from a heat or airflow fault cleanly

- Empty the condensate tank and refit it fully until it seats. — Time: a minute.
- Clean the door lint filter and rinse it if it is furred, then dry it before refitting. — Time: several minutes.
- Open the condenser access, withdraw and rinse the condenser until the water runs clear, drain it and refit it. — Time: several minutes plus drying.
- Run a timed cycle rather than a sensor cycle and note whether it completes. — Time: one cycle.
- Plug the machine directly into a wall outlet rather than a shared strip, and check it sits level and solid. — Time: several minutes.

Let the machine cool before opening the condenser access — a dryer that has just cut out on temperature is hot inside. Unplug it before removing any panel, and never run it with the filter out or the condenser removed; lint reaching the heater is the classic dryer fire mechanism.
When to stop and call a technician
Call for service when the cycle still ends early with an empty tank, a clean filter, a clean condenser and a timed programme selected, or when a thermal cut-out keeps opening on a clear air path. Repeated cut-outs on a clean machine point at the heater circuit and that is live work.
