A machine standing on a worktop

What you are seeing
- A buzz or drumming that comes through the worktop.

Most likely causes, in Dreame order
- Machine resonating against a hard worktop — Why ranked: First on a countertop unit. It is light, it stands free, and any hard surface acts as a sounding board.
- Feet not all bearing, so the machine rocks — Why ranked: Second: an uneven worktop or a crumb under one foot is enough to make it buzz and shift.
- Spray arm striking a tall item in a small tub — Why ranked: Third. A compact tub has very little clearance, so an arm fouls far more easily than in a full-size machine.
- Fill hose or faucet adapter drumming against the sink — Why ranked: Fourth. The hose carries vibration and taps against a hard sink edge.
- Pump bearing worn — Why ranked: Last, and identified by a sound that tracks the pump and is unaffected by placement or loading.
What to check, in order
- Press a hand on the worktop beside the machine while it runs. — Because: A change in the sound identifies resonance immediately and rules out mechanism.
- Press each corner of the machine to see whether it rocks. — Because: A machine on three feet buzzes and can walk across a worktop.
- Turn the spray arm by hand with the rack loaded. — Because: A compact tub gives very little clearance, so an arm fouls easily.
- Check whether the fill hose is resting against the sink or the tap. — Because: A hose drumming on a hard edge is a common and easily fixed noise.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A countertop dishwasher that moves during a cycle can pull its hose off or reach the edge of the worktop - stop the cycle rather than pushing it back while it runs. Never let the machine sit near the edge of a worktop. Do not run it with the fill hose under tension. Let the tub cool before reaching in after a hot cycle.
When this becomes a service call
A grinding noise remains with the machine level and the arm free. The machine walks across the worktop on every cycle. There is a burning smell during the drain step. The noise appeared alongside poor drainage or a leak.
