The short answer
A dishwasher that will not start is usually being prevented rather than broken: a door that is not latching, a control lock, a delay start left set, or a supply that is off. On an imported mass-market cabinet the ranking below puts those first because between them they explain most of these calls and every one of them is free to check. Only after they are clean is this a service question.
What you observe
- The panel is dark and nothing responds — No power reaching the machine, which is the breaker, the switch or the connection rather than the appliance.
- The panel lights but the start pad does nothing — A control lock, a delay start, or the door not proving shut.
- It beeps and returns to standby — Usually the door latch not making, which is the machine refusing rather than failing.
- NEAR MISS: it runs a full cycle but leaves dishes dirty — That is a cleaning complaint and belongs on a different page.
Causes, most likely first on this appliance
- The door is not latching — The machine will not start until the latch proves the door shut. Safety
Switch the machine off at its breaker before checking any wiring, any connection or the switch that feeds it, and leave it off while your hands are behind the kickboard. Do not defeat the door latch or hold the door closed to force a start. Water and an electrical appliance share the same floor here, so dry any standing water before you kneel in it.
When to call a technician
Call once the power, the door, the control lock, the supply valve and a clean cancel have all been ruled out, because what is left is the latch switch, the panel or the board, and each needs the machine out of its opening. Call an electrician instead if the breaker trips or the local switch is dead.
