The short answer
A dishwasher that will not start is usually being prevented rather than broken: a door that is not latching, a control lock, a delay start left set, or a supply that is off. - The panel lights but the start pad does nothing — A control lock, a delay start, or the door not proving shut.

Causes, most likely first on this appliance
- No power at the machine — A tripped breaker, or the switch under the sink that controls the machine being off.
