The short answer
Water under a washer comes from one of four places: the inlet side, the drain side, the door or lid seal, or the tub itself — and where the water appears tells you which, before anything is moved. - NEAR MISS — Damp around the detergent drawer — An overdosed or blocked drawer overflows and runs down the front; that is a cleaning issue, not a leak.

- Look for suds rather than water on the floor — Foam residue when it dries is a dose problem, not a seal problem.
- Dry the couplings and run a fill with a tissue at each joint — A tissue finds a weep that a hand will miss and tells you which end is leaking.

When to stop and call
Call when the hoses are dry at their couplings, the filter cover is seated, the seal is clean and intact, and water still appears — particularly if it only happens at high spin speed.
