The short answer
A Costway FP Refrigerator that has stopped producing ice is worth checking in supply order — is there water, is the compartment cold enough, is the ice maker switched on and unobstructed — because that is the order from free to expensive. Start at the module and you will usually replace a working part.
What you see on the FP family
- No ice at all and the mould is dry — No water is arriving. That points at the supply line, the valve or a switched-off ice maker rather than at freezing.
- A solid block of ice in the bin instead of cubes — Cubes that partly thawed and refroze, which means the freezer is losing temperature between cycles rather than that the maker has failed.
- Small, hollow or misshapen cubes — Low water flow, usually a partly frozen fill tube or a restricted filter, so each fill is short.
- The maker fills but the cubes never release — Either the compartment is not cold enough to complete a cycle or the mould heater and ejector are not finishing it.
Causes, most likely first on the FP family
- Freezer temperature not low enough to complete a cycle — Ranked first on the FP family — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and a compartment above that will stall the ice cycle before it affects anything else you would notice. An ice maker will not harvest until the mould reaches its release temperature. A compartment running a few degrees warm produces slow ice, then partial ice, then none, with nothing mechanically wrong.
- Ice maker switched off, bail arm up or the bin jammed — Second — and worth ruling out before any part is considered, because it is free. The bail arm or the sensor arm stops the cycle when it reads a full bin, and a bag of frozen food leaning on it reads full forever.
- Water supply, fill tube or filter — Third — it is checkable by eye and it explains a dry mould completely. The supply valve behind the cabinet gets closed during cleaning or a house move, the fill tube freezes shut when the compartment runs cold, and a long-overdue filter throttles the flow.
- Ice maker module, mould heater or the inlet valve — Fourth — it is the expensive end of the list and the one that needs a technician on these models. The module drives the ejector and the mould heater releases the cubes.
- Body: The order below follows the shared parts rather than the differences — the stems in the FP family carry the same running gear and diverge at the cabinet — which is why the top of this list is not where the brand-generic article puts it.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Look into the mould before touching anything — Dry, full of water, or full of a frozen block.
- 2. Confirm the supply valve behind the cabinet is open — It gets closed during cleaning and house moves more often than anyone admits, and the ice maker is the only thing that notices.
- 3. Check the ice maker is switched on and the arm is down — A bail arm held up by a bag of peas stops the cycle indefinitely, and nothing about the cabinet looks wrong.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
