On a Commercial Cool freezer the first question is whether the water is inside or underneath. Water inside points at the defrost drain; water underneath points at the drip tray or a supply line. The order below is what does the work on this page.
What you observe
- Water on the floor at the front — Meltwater overflowing the cabinet, which is the same fault seen from outside. Note the result even if it is negative, because a ruled-out cause is progress.
- Water underneath at the back — The drip tray overflowing or displaced, or a supply line connection weeping. Keep an eye on whether it is getting worse, because the rate of change is itself evidence.
- Water only after a defrost cycle — Timing that points squarely at the drain rather than at any supply plumbing. If the answer is clear, stop here and act on it.
- Damp or swollen flooring in front of the appliance — A slow leak that has been running longer than anybody noticed. Keep an eye on whether it is getting worse, because the rate of change is itself evidence.
Ranked causes for this machine
- A frozen drain tube — Second because a partly blocked drain freezes solid, which converts a slow problem into a complete one. Write it down before anybody comes out; a described symptom is worth more than a remembered one.
- A cracked or displaced drip tray — The tray at the back collects meltwater and evaporates it; displaced, it simply drops the water on the floor. If this is the cause, the evidence for it is usually visible rather than inferred.
- A leaking water supply connection — On appliances with ice or water, the connection behind is under pressure whenever the valve is open. If this is what you have, you are on the right page; if not, follow the near-miss line.
- An appliance that is not level — Last, and a genuine contributor: a cabinet tilted forward sends meltwater to the door rather than to the drain. It earns this slot because it explains the whole symptom rather than part of it.
What to look at first, second, third
- Look for ice under the bottom drawer — It is the definitive sign of a blocked drain and it is visible as soon as the drawer comes out. Confirming it costs less than assuming it, which is why it is worth the few minutes.
- Find the drain opening at the back of the cabinet — A small hole or channel low on the back wall. Debris in it is the fault. It needs nothing you do not already own.
- Check whether the appliance is level — A forward tilt sends meltwater the wrong way, which turns a small drain restriction into a floor puddle. Eliminate it properly before moving down; a half-checked cause comes back later.

- Empty the cabinet and defrost it fully — Cool bags for the food, appliance off, door open, towels down, and let every bit of ice clear. It needs nothing you do not already own.
