The short answer
Not every model in this family ships with an ice maker, so the first question is whether yours has one and whether it is switched on — the bail arm or the on-screen setting stops production silently. After that the order is supply, then temperature, then the module itself. nine model numbers share the BD designation. They are in the table below, and the trailing letters that separate them are finish and trim codes rather than different mechanisms — the fault below behaves the same across the list.
What you actually observe
- Ice stopped in hot weather — A cabinet fighting a warm room may hold food safely without reaching ice-making temperature.
- Fill tube visibly iced over — The clearest finding in the whole diagnosis, and one you can see with a torch.
- Maker cycles noisily and produces nothing — Harvest without fill. The supply side is the place to look.
- New unit that has never made ice — Check the supply connection, the arm and the initial run-in period before assuming a fault.
- NEAR MISS — the dispenser works but the maker is empty — Water at the dispenser proves the supply, which moves the diagnosis to the maker and the temperature.
Most likely first
- Water getting in — Ranked first because everything else depends on it. Household shut-off, the supply line, the inlet valve, the filter and the fill tube are all in series, and any one of them stops production completely.
- Cold enough to harvest — Second. The mould thermostat decides when to eject, so a compartment running warm produces no ice while still keeping food acceptably cold.
- Controls and settings — Third. The arm, the on-screen setting and any holiday or energy mode all stop production by design, and all of them get changed by accident.
- The maker itself — Last. Module, mould heater, motor or thermostat — a genuine failure, but one that should be diagnosed after the supply and the temperature are proven, not before.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Start at the tap, end at the mould — Shut-off, line, valve, filter, fill tube, mould. Working along that path in order finds the fault without guessing.
- Give a new or freshly serviced unit time — A maker that has just been connected or a cabinet that has just been defrosted needs a full cycle or two before it is judged.
- Feel the mould after a cycle — A mould full of water that never freezes points at the compartment; a dry mould points at the fill.
- Stop at the module — Testing a module means working on a live appliance behind a panel, which is a service call on this cabinet class.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not thaw a frozen fill tube with a heat gun, a hair dryer on full or boiling water poured into the compartment: the plastic distorts, and a distorted tube leaks into the cabinet afterwards. If you close a household shut-off valve to work on the supply, open it again slowly and check the joint for weeping before pushing the cabinet back.

Where the owner line is on these models
Call when the water path is proven and the compartment is genuinely cold and the maker still will not produce. That means the shut-off open, the line uncrushed, the filter seated and in date, the fill tube clear, and ice cream that is firm. What remains is the inlet valve, the module, its motor or its thermostat, all behind a panel on a live appliance. Call sooner if you find water in the bin or under the cabinet, because a valve that weeps causes damage that outlasts the ice complaint. Whichever of the nine models in the table above you have, quote the full number from the rating plate when you call — the family letters alone will not get the right part.
