Food first, then the fault
Judge it by the compressor. Running constantly and warm means the heat has nowhere to go: coil, clearance, fan, ambient. Not running at all, or humming without starting, means the relay or the sealed system, and that is service work on the CCUK line as on any other. The CCUK family as the table shows it is one model number. Work from the full number on the rating plate rather than from the family letters when you order anything.
What you actually observe
- Temperature crept up over weeks — Gradual loss is a dusty coil, a tired gasket or a hotter room, not a sudden failure.
- Compressor short-cycling — On and off every few minutes, usually overheating at the condenser or a relay on its way out.
- Lid or door is hard to open again straight away — That is normal on a sealed compartment and a sign the gasket is doing its job.
- Problem appeared with hot weather — Ambient temperature matters on units of this size, particularly in garages and outbuildings.
- NEAR MISS — water on the floor as well — That is the leak page for this family; defrost water is a separate diagnosis.
Causes, most likely first on the CCUK line
- Ambient conditions — Ranked first on units installed in garages, porches and outbuildings. A cabinet built for a heated room loses capacity in summer heat and in unheated winter cold alike.
- Coil, dust and clearance — Second and free to correct: vacuum the condenser, pull the unit away from the wall, and give it room above.
- Seal and frost — Third. They feed each other — a leaking seal builds frost, and frost stops the lid closing squarely, which leaks more.
- Compressor and relay — Last. Behind a panel, on a live appliance, and best diagnosed rather than guessed at.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Deal with the food first — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below. Anything that has thawed and warmed is a food-safety decision, not a repair decision.
- Confirm it is running — Hum, a warm condenser, fan noise. A silent cabinet is a power fault and nothing below applies.
- Pull it out and vacuum the coil — The highest-yield check on a compact unit, and it needs no tools beyond a vacuum cleaner.
- Paper-test the seal all round — Close it on a sheet of paper at several points and pull. Where it slides freely, air is getting in there.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Cleaning a coil, checking a seal and defrosting need no panel off at all. Do not chip ice away with a knife or a screwdriver — puncturing an evaporator ends the appliance — and never attempt anything on the sealed system, which is licensed work under pressure.

Where the owner line is on these models
Stop and call when the unit hums but never cools, when it is silent with a proven outlet, or when frost re-forms heavily within days of being cleared. Everything in front of that — coil, clearance, seal, ice, load, ambient temperature — is worth an hour of your own time, because a technician will check exactly the same list before opening anything. One model number carries the CCUK designation, so when you book the visit give the full number from the rating plate rather than the family letters — it is what decides which parts the technician brings.
