The short answer
Ice on the Comfee CERM platform depends on two things: water arriving, and a compartment cold enough to freeze it — and cold is the weaker of the two on these models. Many cabinets in this family freeze ice in a tray or a small compartment, which removes half the usual fault list. Slow ice is an early warning of a cold-side problem, which is why it is worth chasing rather than tolerating.
What you actually observe
- Ice has taken on odours — Old ice absorbs whatever is in the compartment, so slow production and stale ice travel together.
- The bin never catches up — Compare against how the cabinet behaved a year ago rather than against a full-size unit.
- The module hums or grinds without producing — A motor running against a frozen mould makes this exact sound and eventually fails from it.
- The freezer section itself feels soft — Ice complaints with soft food are a cold-side fault wearing an ice-maker disguise.
- NEAR MISS — cooling has failed generally — Do not troubleshoot an ice maker on a cabinet that is not cooling — the cold side comes first.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- The freezer section drifting warm — It ranks top here because these cabinets have the least thermal margin, so a few degrees of drift ends ice production while food still looks frozen.
- Door or lid leaking cold — Ranked here because it is free to test and it explains slow ice and frost together.
- Cold air stalled inside the freezer section — Frost over the vents does the same thing as a packed shelf, and on these models both are common.
- A kinked line behind the cabinet — It ranks here because the supply is behind the unit where nobody looks, and a partly closed valve mimics a failed maker.
The order to work in
- Check the gasket with a paper strip — A leaking seal frosts the compartment and starves the tray at the same time.
- Put a thermometer in the compartment overnight — Leave a thermometer beside the tray overnight rather than reading the panel.
- Check whether anything blocks the vents — Second because it takes five minutes and a blocked vent produces slow ice with everything else in order.
- Lift and lower the arm to see the mechanism respond — Pull the bin out and reseat it square, then watch it over a day.
What to do before the panel comes off

Isolate the machine before your hands go anywhere near the ice maker — a module that decides to run is how fingers get hurt. Water and electricity share a small space here, so do not power up a wet compartment. Thaw ice out rather than forcing it — a cracked tray turns a free fix into a parts job.
