The short answer
A Comfee WQP dishwasher that will not start splits into two cases, and the split takes one glance. A standard US household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A at 120 V; many dishwashers are hard-wired rather than plugged, in which case the breaker is the only check. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off — nothing on the owner list needs a panel removed.
What the owner sees and hears
- The door will not latch — The machine will not begin without the latch confirmed.
- It hums briefly then stops — That is not a start fault — power, door and lock are fine and something stops it.
- No beep, no display — Check the breaker first, and look for a switched spur under the counter.
- An icon lit that you do not recognise — Free, instant, and the answer more often than expected.
- Water in the base — Many machines lock out until they drain — that is the machine protecting itself.
- NEAR MISS — a puddle under it — A leak is its own complaint.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- The catch not confirming — Debris in the strike, or an item protruding from the top rack, produces the same result.
- Control lock armed — High because it is armed by accident constantly — usually while wiping the panel down.
- The cycle scheduled for later — It belongs here because a delayed start leaves the machine lit and idle until its time arrives.
- Undrained water in the base — Bail the base and clean the filter — the drainage complaint is a different page.
- An internal electrical failure — Lowest in the checking order because everything above must be ruled out first.
Check in this order, and why
- Push the door until the latch clicks home — Check the strike for debris and that nothing in the top rack protrudes.
- Rule out a drain lockout — Many machines refuse to start until they drain, which is the machine protecting itself.
- Note whether the panel lights at all — First because the two cases share nothing.
- Look at the panel and under the counter — Where the machine is plugged in, test the outlet with another appliance.
- Release the child lock — Armed by accident constantly, a held button does it.
Before you open anything
Safety
Do not reset repeatedly to see what happens — resetting is not a diagnosis. Water on the floor is a leak: cut the power and close the water first. Let the machine cool if a cycle stopped part-way — the base and the heater stay hot.
