Straight answer first
The machine cleans by spraying hot water through rotating arms, and anything that interrupts that spray produces the same complaint. A white film on glasses is a detergent, rinse aid or water hardness problem. Nothing on the owner list needs a panel removed — everything here is inside the cabinet.

- A spray arm catches when spun by hand — Check the load first — a handle hanging through a rack is the usual cause.

- Glasses come out dull — On hard water the detergent dose matters more than anywhere else.

- Rinse aid empty or set too low — The dispenser setting can also be turned down too far.
- Stale or clumped detergent — It belongs here because a white film is chemistry rather than mechanics.
- Dirty water recirculating — A monthly clean prevents most of this, and it is free.
- Items in the way of the jets — First because it is the most common cause of a half-clean load and it costs nothing.
- Insufficient heat — Running the kitchen tap hot before starting costs nothing and often helps.
What to check first, second, third
- Clean the filter and the well beneath — Refit it properly — an unseated filter is worse than a blocked one.
- Identify what is actually on the dishes — First because the symptom names the cause.
- Spin each spray arm by hand — With the machine empty, an arm that is stiff is a bearing problem.
- Hold each arm up to the light — Jets block with seeds, labels and scale, and each blocked hole is a patch that never gets water.
- Fill the rinse aid and use fresh detergent — Detergent left in the dispenser means the flap never opened — usually a leaning plate.

When this stops being a DIY job
Call for a cycle that ends cold on a hot feed, because that affects cleaning directly and is not owner-fixable. Ask what was diagnosed before parts are ordered — a heater, a pump and a control board are very different costs.
