The ice maker is the last suspect on this platform, not the first: water in and cold enough to freeze come first. Run them in order and you will either restore production or know exactly which part to buy. Symptoms worth separating
- You can hear the fill valve buzz but no water arrives — The valve is being told to open and either cannot, or the line beyond it is blocked with ice.
- NEAR MISS — water dispenses but ice never forms — A supply that works at the dispenser and not at the mould narrows this to the ice-maker fill branch specifically.
- The ice tastes stale or smells of the freezer — Production is slow enough that cubes sit and sublimate, which is a rate problem, not a flavour problem.
- A slab of ice has formed in the bin instead of cubes — Melt and refreeze, which points to harvest timing or a freezer that is drifting warm.
Causes, ranked for this brand
- Freezer running warmer than it should — Ranked first: A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below; above that, harvest timing slips and cubes come out soft or fused. It sits at the top here because these cabinets are old enough that age, not design, sets the failure order — seals harden, terminals oxidise, mechanical timers wander.
- Fill tube frozen solid at the mould end — Second: Once a plug forms it grows with every cycle, so the failure appears sudden even though it built up for weeks.

Order of investigation

- Check the bin arm or sensor is clear and in its on position — The cheapest possible cause, and it is checked first for exactly that reason.

- Confirm nothing is leaning on the bin arm or the sensor eye — Reposition frozen packets away from the ice maker and wipe a frosted sensor window clear.

- Clear a frozen fill tube with a warm damp cloth — Wrap the tube, wait, repeat. Do not use a metal tool or boiling water; both damage the plastic and make the next plug worse.

Power off at the breaker or at the plug first. A capacitor keeps a charge after the power is off, so treat the compressor terminals as energised until you have confirmed otherwise. Nothing in the sealed circuit is an owner job: it is pressurised, and the law treats venting it as a violation in its own right.
The line between fix and call
Call once the mould freezes hand-poured water but the valve still will not fill it: that is a valve or harness diagnosis, and it is made with a meter on an unplugged appliance. Call at once where water and electricity are meeting, whatever else the diagnosis might eventually be.
