- Water shows up only while the machine is filling — Points at the inlet hoses or the valve instead of at anything downstream.

- Door seal torn, folded or holding debris — Ranked first: The boot takes the whole load of a spin cycle and collects coins and grit at its lowest point, which cut it from the inside. - Tighten or renew the supply hose washers — Close the tap, unscrew the hose, fit a fresh washer and tighten firmly by hand plus a light nip with a wrench.

Power down at the breaker or the plug, then close both supply valves, then start work. A capacitor keeps its charge after the power is gone, and an inlet hose under house pressure does not empty politely. If the floor is already wet, deal with the breaker before you step in it.

Call promptly where the leak is soaking a floor or a neighbouring unit, since water damage outruns appliance damage by a wide margin. Bring the technician your notes instead of your theory; what you observed is worth more than what you concluded.
