Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A blocked defrost drain — Top of the list here: the drain hole is small, it sits at the lowest point of the cooling surface where crumbs and label paper collect, and once it closes the meltwater has to go somewhere - forward, into the cabinet.
- Meltwater from the freezer box taking its own route — Second here: the box above has no automatic defrost, so whatever you thaw off it runs down inside the cabinet rather than out of it unless the channel behind the box is clear.
- A drip tray out of place or overflowing — Third, and worth the two minutes: the tray only rests in clips above the compressor, so it shifts whenever the cabinet is moved and a tray half out of position spills everything the drain sends it.
- A cabinet standing nose-down — Last, and the reason the order matters: these are light enough to be set on carpet, on a shelf or on a floor that slopes, and tilted forward the meltwater never reaches the drain at the back at all.
