The short answer
Start with the door switch: on a Care compact vented dryer it accounts for more of these than anything else, and the outlet, the lead or the breaker is the next thing to rule out. A compact vented dryer runs from an ordinary household outlet and pushes its warm damp air out through a hose that the owner usually routes themselves. What you observe
- Nothing happens at all when you press start — Start at the door switch and the outlet.
- The load is warm but still damp at the end — Heat without airflow, which is the commonest pattern of all.

Causes, most likely first on this brand
- The door switch — The likeliest cause on this brand: nothing runs with the door reading open, and the switch is a small plastic part struck by the door every single cycle.
- The outlet, the lead or the breaker — Next most likely: before anything inside the machine is suspected, it is worth proving the machine is actually being fed - which on a dryer takes one minute.
- The start control not being held or the cycle not selected — Third on the list: many machines want the start held for a moment and will do nothing at all otherwise, which reads as a dead appliance.
- A thermal fuse that has opened — Least likely, and the only one that is not your work: it is a one-time device that blows when the machine overheats, which nearly always means the vent was blocked - so a dryer that dies suddenly after months of slow drying is usually this.

- Open and close the door and listen for the click — Nothing else on the machine can run until this reports closed.
- Test the outlet and the breaker — One minute, and everything below it assumes the machine is being fed.
- Press and hold the start control — It costs a second and clears the least mechanical cause on the list.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the dryer before clearing the vent hose or opening the lint housing; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never exhaust a vented dryer into the room it stands in, and never run it with the filter removed - lint reaching the heater is how dryers catch fire. If yours is a gas model and you smell gas: leave the building without touching any switch, and call the gas utility or emergency services from outside.
When to call a technician
Call when the door clicks, the outlet is live, the start control has been held and the machine still does nothing. If it died suddenly after weeks of drying slowly, say so when you call - that history points at a thermal fuse, and the vent that blew it needs clearing at the same visit or it will blow again.
