The short answer
Write the code down and note when it appears before touching anything: on a dishwasher most codes are reporting a fill, drain or door condition rather than a broken board.

- Buttons that respond intermittently or not at all
- The wrong cycle starting when a button is pressed
- A display that lights and then blanks
- Lights flashing in a repeating pattern with no cycle running
