The short answer
Most no-start calls on the Caf CDT family end at the door: the latch has to close its switch before the control will do anything, and a rack pushed out of place or a warped door panel is enough to prevent it. With eight model tags in the matrix below, this family covers several passes of the same platform, and a cause that is a running change on one group can be absent on another. That check costs one press and is the right first move.
What you can observe on these models
- The door has to be pressed hard to latch — The latch is only just making. An out-of-adjustment door will make sometimes and not others, which looks intermittent.
- It starts and then dies part way through — That is a different fault from a no-start — expect a thermal, a water fill timeout or a control problem.
- A beep on the start press and then nothing — The control accepted the keypress and then stopped, which points at the latch signal or a fill fault.
- The breaker trips when the cycle starts — A heating or motor circuit is drawing a fault current, which is a stop-now condition rather than a diagnostic step.
- NEAR MISS — it runs but leaves water in the tub — The machine started fine. Work the drainage page instead.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Control lock, demo mode or delay start — First on a machine whose panel responds normally but refuses every cycle: these modes are designed to look exactly like this.
- Door latch adjustment — Second, and confirmed by whether a firm press changes the behaviour.
- Supply — breaker, junction box, shared circuit — Third: check the branch circuit before assuming an internal fault, especially in a kitchen where a disposer shares the run.
- Water supply closed causing an early abort — Fourth, and settled by opening the shutoff under the sink.
- Thermal fuse, membrane or board — Last: the parts, and each one needs a meter to condemn rather than a guess.
Check in this order, and why
- Reset the breaker once, and only once — A breaker that trips again on the next start is telling you there is a fault current, not a nuisance trip.
- Confirm the hot water shutoff is open — A machine that aborts after a minute has timed out on fill and never had a start problem at all.
- Try every key on the panel — A membrane that responds to some keys and not others is failing, and that is a different repair from a control board.
- Listen for the latch click as the door closes — No click, or a click only with a hard push, puts the door at the top of the list.
Before you open anything
Safety
Power down at the breaker before any panel comes off; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The junction box at the base of the Caf CDT family carries the supply connection, so treat it as live until the breaker is proven off. Never bypass or tape down the door latch switch to make a machine run.

When to call a technician
Clearing a lockout, closing a door properly and resetting a breaker once are yours. Anything behind the door panel — latch switch, thermal fuse, membrane, control board — is a service call on these models, and so is any connection inside the junction box. Stop and call for any burning smell from the panel area.
