The short answer
When the Caf PDT family will not start, the fastest split is to look at the panel. The matrix below lists two model tags that differ only in their trailing revision characters, so a part that suits one usually suits its neighbours, and the tag still decides. Lights present means power is arriving and the machine is declining to run; no lights at all sends you to the breaker and the junction box before anything inside the door is suspected.
What you can observe on these models
- A beep on the start press and then nothing — The control accepted the keypress and then stopped, which points at the latch signal or a fill fault.
- The breaker trips when the cycle starts — A heating or motor circuit is drawing a fault current, which is a stop-now condition rather than a diagnostic step.
- Buttons respond unpredictably or not at all — A failing touch membrane behaves like this, and it usually gets worse in a warm, damp kitchen.
- The panel is completely dark — No power arriving. The breaker, the junction box connection or the supply wiring comes before anything else.
- NEAR MISS — it starts but leaves the dishes dirty — That is a cleaning fault, not a start fault, and belongs on the cleaning page.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Door latch not closing its switch — First on these models: press the door firmly closed and try again before anything else is considered.
- Control lock or delay start engaged — Second: both are deliberate features that present exactly as a dead machine, and both are cleared from the panel.
- No power — breaker, junction box or supply wiring — Third, and the point at which the branch circuit and the connection at the machine base need checking.
- Thermal fuse or the control board supply — Fourth: a blown thermal fuse kills the machine completely while the breaker stays on, which is the one case that imitates a supply fault perfectly.
- Touch membrane or control board failure — Last on this platform, and a service call.
Check in this order, and why
- Try a different cycle and hold the start key — Several of these models need the key held or the door closed within a few seconds, and an unconfirmed cycle simply never begins.
- Check for a lock or delay indicator on the display — It is the single most common false alarm and it is cleared without tools.
- Inspect the latch face and the strike — Debris, a bent strike or a dropped door all stop the switch from making while the door looks closed.
- Only then treat it as a supply or board fault — At this point the machine needs the door panel off and a meter, which is where the owner side ends.

Switch the dishwasher off at its breaker before opening the door panel or the junction box — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A standard US household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A at 120 V; if the breaker trips again when the cycle starts, leave it off and stop there, because a repeating trip is a fault current and not a nuisance.

When to call a technician
Call when a lit panel refuses every cycle after the lock, the delay and the latch have all been cleared — the remaining candidates are the latch switch, the membrane and the control board. Call sooner if the machine starts and stops repeatedly, because repeated aborts on a fill fault leave hot water standing against the seals.
