The short answer
Water in a Buzz mini fridge is melted frost or condensation. Check the drain hole at the back of the cabinet first, then the door seal, then the tray behind. A manual defrost done without towels in place accounts for a lot of one-off floods. There is no supply line here to leak.
What you observe
- Water on the shelf under the cold plate — Melt running off the plate instead of into the gutter.
- Standing water in the bottom of the cabinet — The drain hole is blocked and the cabinet is filling.
- A trickle out of the door onto the floor — Water that has overrun the interior.
- Water at the back only — A displaced or overfull tray above the compressor.
- NEAR MISS - drips off the plate on a warm day — Normal melting. It needs a clear drain, not a repair.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A blocked drain hole — First. It is a very small opening, and crumbs, a spill or a little mould close it, after which every drop of melt stays in the cabinet.
- A manual defrost with nothing to catch the melt — Second, and self-inflicted. A block of ice becomes a surprising amount of water and most of it arrives at once.
- A door seal that is not sealing — Third. A poor seal admits humid air continuously, which frosts heavily and gives the drain far more to carry than it was designed for.
- A drip tray displaced or overfull — Fourth. These cabinets are moved often, and a tray knocked out of place pours straight onto the floor at the back.
- A cabinet that is not level — Last of the ordinary causes. Gutter and tray both rely on gravity, so a cabinet leaning forward keeps water inside.
Check in this order, and why
- Find the drain hole at the back of the cabinet floor — Standing water or a plug of ice around it is the answer.
- Pour a little warm water into the gutter — It should disappear. If it sits, the drain is blocked.
- Test the door seal on a slip of paper — A seal that does not drag is making the water you are mopping.
- Look behind for the tray above the compressor — Displaced or overfull explains water at the back only.

- Defrost with towels in place — Lay towels on the shelves and the floor before you start; a block of ice makes a lot of water.

Safety
Unplug the cabinet before defrosting, clearing the drain or reaching behind it - you are working with water beside an appliance. Never clear a drain hole with a knife, a skewer or stiff wire, because the cooling circuit runs close behind that panel and a puncture ends the appliance. Mop promptly: water under a mini fridge on a desk or a carpeted floor does damage well beyond the appliance.
When to call a technician
Call when the drain runs clear, the seal drags on paper, the cabinet is level and the tray is seated, and water still appears. That points at a cracked gutter or a split tube. Call sooner if water is reaching the compressor area at the back, or if the appliance trips a breaker or a residual current device, because at that point it is an electrical matter.
