The short answer
On a Buzz mini fridge, level the cabinet on a firm surface and stop it touching anything before suspecting a part. Clear the top and the shelves next, then the coils. The compressor is last, and a clunk with a warming cabinet is the only pattern that needs acting on quickly.
What you observe
- A buzz you can feel through a desk or a floor — A light cabinet resonating with a large flat surface.
- A rattle only while the compressor runs — Something touching the cabinet or the pipework.
- Ticking from inside the cabinet — The cold plate expanding as the compressor cycles.
- A gurgle a few minutes after it stops — Refrigerant settling. Normal on every fridge.
- NEAR MISS - a hum that runs most of the day in summer — Long running is a capacity matter, not a noise fault.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A cabinet not level or on a soft surface — First. These are light, and a foot barely in contact or a carpet under one corner lets compressor vibration go straight into whatever it stands on.
- Resonance with a desk, shelf or hollow floor — Second, and specific to where these are used. A large flat panel amplifies a small vibration far more than a solid floor would.
- Contact with a wall, cupboard or another appliance — Third. Minis are wedged into tight spaces, and a cabinet touching a panel transfers vibration into it.
- Loose contents or an unseated shelf — Fourth. Bottles touching, a wire shelf not seated and items on the cabinet top all buzz with the compressor.
- Hardened compressor mounts or a failing compressor — Last. Hardened mounts pass vibration undamped; a loud clunk at start with a warming cabinet is the compressor.

- Rock each corner and check the feet — Free, quick, and the likeliest cause on a light cabinet.
- Move it onto a firm floor for an hour — A desk or hollow shelf changes the sound completely.
- Pull it clear of everything and listen again — Contact with a wall or cupboard is easy to prove.
- Empty the shelves and the top and listen — Separates contents from machine in one minute.

Safety
Unplug the cabinet before cleaning the coils or reaching behind it. Do not wedge packing against pipework to silence a rattle, because that transfers vibration rather than absorbing it and can chafe a line over time. Get help to move the cabinet, and never tilt a fridge far on its side: oil can leave the compressor and cause a fault that was not there before, which is a common outcome of moving these between rooms.
When to call a technician
Call when the cabinet is level on a firm surface, clear of contact on every side, tidy inside and out, and a buzz or knock persists while the compressor runs. Call without further testing if the compressor clunks loudly at start and the cabinet is warming, or if it starts and stops every few seconds, because both point at the compressor or its start components.
