In short
An oven heating fault is diagnosed by pattern rather than by inspection: whether it heats at all, whether it heats in one mode and not another, and whether the shortfall has grown over months. Appliances at this end of the market are generously made and electronically supervised, which means the cheap causes present exactly like the expensive ones. The line between owner work and qualified work is drawn clearly below, and it is worth respecting exactly.
What you actually see
- Food takes longer and comes out unevenly — A shortfall against setpoint rather than an absence of heat.
- A visible break or blister on an element — The direct evidence, when the element is the visible type.
- The oven reaches temperature and then falls away — A sensor, a door seal or a thermostat that is cycling early.
- NEAR MISS: the oven heats but the display is blank — That is a control or supply fault and it belongs elsewhere.
The causes in order of likelihood
- Heating element failure — The one to suspect first. It leads on an oven of this class because the elements are the hardest-working parts in a cavity that is used at high temperature. An element that has opened stops the mode it serves and leaves the others working, which is why a grill that works and a bake that does not is such a useful observation.
- Oven temperature sensor drift — The second suspect. The oven controls to what the sensor reports. A drifted sensor gives a confident display and an oven that is consistently wrong in one direction.
- Control relay not energising an element — Third, and less common. The board switches high current through relays, and a relay that no longer closes produces exactly the same symptom as a failed element.
- Door seal or hinge letting heat out — Fourth, and less common again. A door that no longer closes squarely bleeds heat continuously and the oven never catches up.
- Body: These are ordered for this brand and appliance rather than for the appliance class in general, and the ordering is qualitative.
The diagnostic order
- Try each mode in turn and note which produce heat — This single test separates an element fault from a control or sensor fault.
- Check whether the shortfall is absolute or partial — No heat is an element or supply; not enough heat is a sensor or a door.
- Look at the visible element for breaks or blistering — Where the element is visible this is direct evidence.
- Body: The order below uses the oven own modes as the test, because each mode uses a different element and tells you something the others do not.
What you can do now
- Run each cooking mode briefly and write down which ones heat — Do this before anything is opened or suspected.
- Check the breaker, including both halves of a heavy circuit — A partial supply loss leaves controls alive and elements dead.
- Inspect the door seal all the way round and check the door closes flush — Gaps at a corner are visible and correctable.

- STOP before removing an element or testing a sensor circuit — Those are live, high-current connections behind a panel.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Oven elements and their connections carry high current, and the cavity stays hot long after the appliance is switched off.
When this becomes a service call
Call when one mode heats and another does not, when an independent thermometer shows a consistent shortfall, or when nothing heats at all and the supply has been proven. Elements, sensors and relays are all ordinary repairs; the diagnosis needs a meter and is not owner work. A fault that repeats at the same point in a cycle has already named its own circuit.
