When the panel and the oven disagree, believe the oven and check the sensor. When the panel does not respond at all, check whether the cooling system that protects it is still working. The hardware on this kind of appliance rarely surprises anyone; the supervision around it is where the ambiguity lives. Each step below eliminates a circuit rather than a component, which is what makes the order worth following.
Symptoms and near misses
- The panel works when cold and fails when the oven is hot — The single most diagnostic symptom here: heat is the cause.
- The panel does not respond to touch or press — The interface or its supply, and on an oven often a heat-damaged one.
- Settings that will not hold or that revert — A control resetting, or a lock overriding what you enter.
- NEAR MISS: no display at all and no heat — A supply fault rather than a control fault.
What is usually behind it, in order
- Heat damage to the control assembly — The one to suspect first. It leads on an oven of this class because the cavity runs hot and the control assembly sits directly in the path of the air leaving it. Fascias sit directly above the cavity. A cooling fan that has stopped or a vent that is blocked cooks the control, and the failure follows temperature.
- Temperature sensor drift — The second suspect. The oven controls to what the sensor says, so a drifted sensor produces a confident display and consistently wrong results.
- Control lock or cleaning lock engaged — Third, and less common. Free to rule out and a surprisingly common explanation for a panel that ignores everything.
- Interface board or connector failure — Fourth, and less common again. Connectors near a cavity anneal with repeated heating and fail at the joint rather than in the electronics.
- Body: These are ordered for this brand and appliance rather than for the appliance class in general, and the ordering is qualitative.
Check in this order, and why
- Note whether the fault appears cold, hot, or both — A panel that fails only when the oven is hot has named its own cause.
- Check for a control lock or a cleaning lock — Both refuse everything and clear without a part.
- Listen for the cooling fan running during and after cooking — A silent cooling fan is the cause of most heat-related control damage.
- Body: The order below asks when the fault happens before it asks what has failed, because on an oven the answer is usually temperature.
Step by step, safely
- Clear any lock using the documented gesture — Start here because it is free.
- Check the vents above and around the fascia are not obstructed — A towel over a handle or a blocked vent is enough to cook a control.
- Put an oven thermometer on the middle shelf and compare at a stable setting — Do this before anyone quotes a board.

- STOP before removing the fascia or disconnecting a ribbon cable — Those assemblies are live and their connectors are fragile.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never block the cooling vents around an oven fascia, and never continue to use an oven whose cooling fan has stopped: the control damage it causes is the least of the problems that follow.
Where owner work ends
Call when a lock is ruled out and the panel still refuses, when the cooling fan does not run, or when a thermometer proves the display wrong. A cooling fan fault in particular should be dealt with promptly, because everything above it in the appliance is being damaged while it is left.
