The short answer
On a Brevino countertop cooler, frost on the back plate is almost always humid air getting in - through frequent openings or a door that no longer quite seals. A bottle far colder than the rest was touching the plate. Neither is a failure, and neither needs a technician.
What you observe
- A layer of frost on the cold plate at the back — Moisture from room air freezing on the only cold surface.
- One bottle far colder than the others — Contact with the plate rather than general over-cooling.
- Condensation on the inside of the glass door — The same humid air on a surface that is cold but not freezing.
- Frost that rebuilds within days of wiping — Air is still entering, so clearing it changes nothing.
- NEAR MISS - a light bloom after a humid day — Normal, and it clears once the room dries.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- Humid room air entering the cabinet — First on a small cooler. The interior volume is tiny, so every opening exchanges nearly all of it, and in a kitchen that moisture has to land somewhere.
- A light door that is not sealing — Second. These doors are thin and their gaskets soft; a knock, a dried spill in the channel or a unit out of level leaves a permanent gap.
- The cabinet standing out of level — Third, and specific to countertop units. A worktop is rarely flat, and a cabinet leaning forward will not hold its own door shut.
- Bottles pressed against the cold plate — Fourth. Glass touching the plate conducts far better than air, so it chills hardest whatever the setting.
- A thermostat or sensor reading wrongly — Last. Genuinely uncommon in this class, and only worth considering once the rest are ruled out.
Check in this order, and why
- Watch the door close from half open — A door that does not swing shut explains persistent frost.
- Check the cabinet is level on its surface — A lean is invisible until you look for it.
- Look at what is touching the back plate — Contact chilling is not a fault.
- Wipe the frost off and time its return — Days means air is entering; weeks is ordinary service.

- Clean the gasket and its channel — Wipe right round with warm water and clear any dried spill from the groove.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the cooler before defrosting or cleaning inside it - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip frost off the cold plate with a knife or screwdriver: the plate is thin, a puncture ends the unit, and there is nothing repairable behind it. Do not use a hair dryer to speed a defrost, because the liner is thin plastic and it distorts.
When to call a technician
Call, or plan a replacement, when the door seals and closes itself, the cabinet is level, nothing touches the plate and frost still returns within days. On a countertop cooler a control fault usually costs more to put right than the unit is worth, so ask for the part price first. Unplug it and call immediately if the case is hot or smells of hot plastic.
