The short answer
On a Breda compact washer the likeliest sources are the door gasket and the fill hose connections, and both are visible without opening the machine. Water only at the drain points at the drain path. Over-dosed detergent explains a surprising share, and a tub seal is the least likely and the most serious.
What you observe
- Water at the front, under the door, during the wash — A gasket leak spills at the lowest point of the opening.
- Water at the back as soon as the taps are on — A supply leak, which does not wait for a cycle.
- Water only at the drain phase — A hose or clamp that leaks when the pump pushes.
- Suds on the floor as well as water — Over-dosing, which pushes foam past the dispenser and gasket.
- NEAR MISS - a damp floor with no visible trickle — Condensation on a cold supply pipe in a warm closet.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A fouled or torn door gasket — First on any front-loader. Debris in the fold holds the seal open a fraction, and a small split at the bottom leaks only while water is being thrown.
- Fill hose connections at the taps or the machine — Second, because they are the joints most often disturbed when a closet machine is pulled out and pushed back.
- Detergent overdosing — Third, and easy to dismiss. A compact drum needs far less detergent than a full-size machine, and the excess foam leaves by the shortest route.
- A drain hose or clamp leaking under pump pressure — Fourth. The timing is the clue: nothing during fill or wash, water at the drain.
- A tub seal or cracked outer tub — Last. It leaks from the centre of the base during the spin, and on a compact washer it usually ends the machine rather than starting a repair.
Check in this order, and why
- Dry the floor and run one cycle with a torch — Watching the leak start answers in one cycle what guessing will not in three.
- Wipe right around inside the gasket fold — Debris and small tears are both found by hand.
- Dry-tissue both ends of each fill hose — A tissue finds a weep that a hand cannot.
- Halve the detergent and repeat the same load — If the leak goes, it was foam and not a fault.

Safety
Switch the machine off at the breaker before mopping under or behind it - a wet closet floor and a live appliance deserve respect, and a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close both taps before disturbing a fill hose. If the machine trips a breaker or a residual current device while leaking, leave it off and call, because water has already reached something electrical.
When to call a technician
Call when the gasket is clean and intact, the hoses are dry, the dose is right and water still reaches the floor - particularly if it comes from the centre of the base during the spin. Call immediately, taps closed first, for any supply-side leak you cannot stop, because that one does not end with the cycle. A leak that trips the electrical protection should not be retried.
