The short answer
A Breda that stalls mid-cycle is almost always waiting for a condition it cannot satisfy - usually the door lock or a drain it cannot complete. Both have owner checks even on a machine with no filter hatch. A control board is the last suspect, not the first.
What you observe
- Water in the drum with time still on the display — The cycle has stopped waiting for a drain that did not finish.
- It fills and drains repeatedly without progressing — The machine chasing a level it never agrees with.
- The door stays locked and the cycle will not cancel — It still believes there is water inside.
- It tumbles endlessly and never attempts a spin — Spin is gated behind a good drain.
- NEAR MISS - a cycle that runs much longer than the display promised — Load sensing and cold inlet water both stretch cycles.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A drain that cannot complete — First. A kinked hose, a hose pushed too far down a standpipe, or a restricted pump all stop the machine passing its drain check, and it retries rather than failing - which is what a fill-drain loop is.
- A door lock that will not confirm — Second, and an installation problem as often as a part one. Closet doors are shut against tight frames, the catch wears, and no step needing the door proven shut will run.
- A blocked inlet screen starving the fill — Third. A machine that fills too slowly may abandon the step, and the screens in the inlet ports silt up over years.
- A pressure sensing path that has silted — Fourth. The machine reads a level that is not there and behaves exactly like a drain fault.
- A control board or wiring fault — Last. Uncommon, expensive and convincingly imitated by everything above it.
Check in this order, and why
- Cancel and run a drain or spin alone — If a bare drain stalls too, the fault is in the drain path.
- Pull the machine out and check the hose route — A kink or a hose buried in a standpipe is visible in a minute.
- Press the door firmly shut and restart — A lock that clicks and releases at once has not confirmed.
- Clean the inlet screens at the fill hoses — A slow fill stalls the sequence as surely as a slow drain.

- Run a drain or spin-only programme — Towels down first in case the drum is full.

- Straighten and re-route the drain hose — Enter the standpipe only a short way and check nothing presses the hose flat.

- Close the taps and clean the inlet screens — Unscrew the fill hoses at the machine and rinse the small screens in the inlet ports.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the machine before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. If the drum is full and the door is locked, do not force it - forcing damages the latch and releases no water. Close both taps before unscrewing a fill hose at the machine end, because they stay under mains pressure. Never defeat the door lock to make the machine run.
When to call a technician
Call when the hose is clear and correctly routed, the taps and screens are clean, the door confirms and the machine still stalls at the same point every cycle. A repeatable stall is information a technician can use directly. Call sooner if you smell hot plastic or the machine trips the breaker when it stalls, because that is wiring or motor rather than sequencing.
