The short answer
If the panel is dark, check the outlet and the breaker. If it lights and nothing happens, check the door latch, the condensate tank and the lint filter, in that order. A control board is the least likely of the causes below and the only one that is not an owner check.
What you observe
- The panel is completely dark — Nothing lights when the power button is pressed.
- Lights come on but pressing start does nothing — The machine is awake and refusing.
- An indicator is lit that you have not seen before — Very often the full-tank warning.
- It runs only if you press the door firmly shut — A latch that is barely confirming.
- NEAR MISS - a pause of a minute before the drum turns — Some programmes sense the load first. Not a failure.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A door latch that will not confirm — First when the panel is lit. The machine tests the latch before committing, and a worn catch in a tight closet means it never gets its confirmation.
- A full condensate tank — Second, and specific to a condenser machine. Many will not begin a cycle at all with the tank full, and the indicator is easy to overlook.
- No power at the outlet — First when the panel is dark. Closet circuits are shared, and a trip caused by the washer takes the dryer with it.
- A lint filter not seated, or a control lock set — Fourth. Both refuse the cycle without explaining themselves, and both clear in seconds.
- A control board or wiring fault — Last. Uncommon, not an owner repair, and imitated convincingly by everything above.
Check in this order, and why
- Decide whether the panel lights at all — That question splits this list in two.
- Empty the condensate tank and try again — The cheapest and most specific test on a condenser dryer.
- Press the door firmly shut while pressing start — If it now runs, the latch is the fault.
- Plug something else into the same outlet — Rules the supply in or out in a minute.

- Empty the water tank and re-seat it — Push it home fully; a tank not seated reads as full on many machines.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the dryer before removing any panel - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Reset a tripped breaker once; if it trips again with the dryer plugged in, leave it off and call. Never tape or wedge the door switch to persuade the machine to start, and avoid running a dryer on an extension lead, because the heater draws heavily and a light lead causes exactly this kind of intermittent fault.
When to call a technician
Call when the outlet is proven good and the panel is still dark, or when the panel lights and the machine refuses with an empty tank, a seated filter and a firmly closed door. Call without further testing if the machine trips the breaker the moment it is plugged in, or if you smell hot insulation, because repeated resets make a short circuit worse rather than better.
