What is actually happening
On the HS models a new noise usually means the cabinet is working harder than it was. Longer compressor runs mean sounds that were always there are no longer masked by the quiet gaps between cycles.
What you observe
- A deep hum that has grown louder over months — Gradual change points at a choked condenser or a compressor working against a restriction.
- Scraping that arrived after a spell of heavy door use — More openings mean more humid air, more frost, and a fan blade that now has something to hit.
- A rattle that changes when you press on a panel — Resonance rather than mechanism: the cabinet is amplifying a normal vibration.
- Gurgling after the compressor stops — Refrigerant equalising through the system. Normal on every cabinet of this type and not worth chasing.
- NEAR MISS - noise only when the cabinet is very full — Packages against the rear vents block airflow and buzz. Move the load before diagnosing the machine.
Likeliest causes first
- Cabinet out of level or a foot not carrying weight — Ranks high because it is invisible and free: the machine is fine and the floor is the fault.
- Evaporator fan blade contacting frost — First on this family: the fan sits close to the evaporator, so ice does not have to grow far before it is in the blade path.
- Evaporator fan motor bearing worn — Real, but below the frost cause because ice produces the same noise far more often than wear does.
- Loose rear panel or drip tray — Bottom of the list and the cheapest to rule out; it presents as a rattle that comes and goes.
Working the fault in order
- Pull the cabinet out and clean the condenser — Both a test and a repair: a choked coil makes noise and shortens compressor life at the same time.
- Open the door or lid with the noise running — The switch cuts the evaporator fan, so a noise that stops with the door is located in one move and without a tool.
- Rock the cabinet gently at each corner — Movement at a foot means the load is on three points and the shell is free to resonate.
- Listen at the base with the compressor running — Separates the condenser fan from the compressor by ear, and it needs only access to the back.

Pull the plug before you open anything. The sealed system inside is not owner-serviceable, and a tube nicked with a screwdriver ends the life of the cabinet rather than the repair.
