What is actually happening
A BougeRV CRX cabinet that leaks is telling you something about its drain path, not its refrigerant. Refrigerant is a gas in a closed loop and it does not puddle; every drop you can see started as frost on an evaporator or as mains water at a fill valve.
What you observe
- NEAR MISS - an oily film in the water — Oil means the sealed system is open. Stop, unplug the cabinet and call a technician; this is no longer a drain question.
- Dripping heard behind the rear freezer panel after the compressor stops — Normal in small amounts at the end of a defrost; a fault when it continues for many minutes or runs down the back wall.
- Water appearing only after the ice maker fills — The timing ties the leak to the supply side rather than to the defrost cycle, and that is the single most useful observation you can make.
- A wet patch behind the cabinet rather than in front of it — That is the fill line, the shut-off or the pan itself, and it means the floor at the front stays dry while the wall behind stays damp.
- Frost on the food in the top drawer and water below it — Air is moving through a gap that should be sealed, condensing on the food and running down.

Working the fault in order
- Look at the back of the freezer floor for a rim of ice around the drain port — One look separates the commonest cause from every other one, and it costs nothing but emptying a drawer.
- Run a sheet of paper around the door seal — Where it slides out with no drag, the seal is not sealing, and that is the leak that is not a leak.
- Pull the cabinet out far enough to see the base pan — Do this second because it takes two people, but it settles the pan, the fitting and the shut-off in one look.
- Feel the floor of the machine compartment for damp insulation — Dry insulation with a wet floor points forward to the drain; wet insulation points at the pan.

Unplug the cabinet first. If you have to move it out to reach the back, walk it out rather than dragging it, and get a second pair of hands: a loaded door swings and the weight is all at the front.

When this becomes a service call
Book the visit when the fault repeats after a full defrost and a full reset, or when the same part fails twice. A repeat failure is usually a second fault driving the first, and diagnosing that from the outside wastes a weekend.
