Before anything is dismantled on a leaking WNA washer, check the simple three: the door seal fold, the drawer housing and the drain hose at the standpipe. On this platform those account for most of what owners report as a leak.
What this looks like from the kitchen
- Water on the floor directly under the door after a wash — The classic door-seal position: the water arrives during the wash and stops when the drum does.
- NEAR MISS - condensation under a machine in a cold room — A cold cabinet in a warm humid room makes its own water and no plumbing is involved.
- Water tracking along the floor from behind to the front — The source is at the back and the destination is at the front, which is why the puddle position misleads so often.
- NEAR MISS - a few drops from the seal when the door opens — Normal on a front-loading machine: the seal holds a little water by design and it runs out when the door swings.
- Damp inside the door seal fold with grit in it — The early stage of a seal leak, and the point at which cleaning the fold still fixes it.
Likeliest causes first
- Inlet hose union weeping at the tap — Under mains pressure all the time, so it leaks between washes as well as during them - a useful distinguishing feature.
- Internal hose clip relaxed with age and vibration — A drum machine shakes its own plumbing loose over years; clips at the sump and the pump are the usual ones to go.
- Drain hose out of the standpipe or clipped badly — Ranks high because a hose that has worked loose empties a full tub onto the floor rather than dripping, which is why it is so dramatic.
- Detergent overdose foaming back through the drawer — Second and the cheapest to fix: the drawer sits above the tub, so foam that backs up has an open route to the floor.
What to check first, second, third
- Note which step of the cycle the water appears on — Fill, wash and drain implicate different components, so the timing is worth more than the location.
- Feel the inlet hose unions at the taps with a dry tissue — A weep under mains pressure shows on tissue before it shows on the floor.
- Open the filter and re-seat the cap properly — Worth doing after any filter clean, because a cross-threaded cap leaks on every drain from then on.
- Watch a fill with the drawer open — Foam backing up is visible instantly, and it separates a dosing problem from a machine problem in one cycle.
Power down first
Safety
Disconnect power and close the inlet taps before starting. A machine that has stopped mid-cycle may still be holding a tub full of water, and that water leaves through the drain filter whether you are ready for it or not.

When this becomes a service call
Stop and call if the machine has already been part-dismantled and will not go back to a known state. A half-assembled drum machine is the one situation where a service call actually gets cheaper by being made earlier.
