The short answer
When a Bosch F machine hangs mid-programme, note where the time stopped. A cycle that freezes early is a fill or lock problem; one that freezes near the end is almost always drain or spin. That single observation does most of the sorting.
What owners of these models report
- Everything works but the final spin never happens — The machine cannot balance the load or cannot drain fully, and it will not spin over water or an unbalanced drum.
- The cycle stops only on programmes that heat — That points at the heating step rather than at the cycle as a whole, and it is a very narrow finding.
- The door stays locked after the cycle ends — Either water is still in the tub or the lock has not released. One of those is a drain fault and the other is a lock fault.
- The machine fills and drains repeatedly without washing — It cannot reach or hold a level, so it keeps retrying the fill gate instead of moving on.
- NEAR MISS - the machine pauses silently for minutes mid-wash — Soak and rest phases are part of many programmes. Watch for a full cycle before calling it a stall.
What it usually turns out to be
- Heating step failing on programmes that need it — Produces a cycle that stalls only on hot programmes, which is a narrow and very useful symptom.
- Drain hose looped or pushed too far into the standpipe — Creates a siphon or a restriction that the machine reads as a drain failure, and it dates from the installation rather than from any wear.
- Unbalanced load preventing the spin step — Ranks high because it stops the cycle at the end, where owners most often notice, and because it is free to fix.
- Door lock not confirming — The very first gate in the sequence, so it stops the cycle at the start rather than midway - which is how it is told apart from the others.
Working the fault in order
- Note where in the cycle the machine stops — Early, middle or late maps onto lock, fill and drain respectively, and it costs one observation to narrow the whole diagnosis.
- Check both taps are fully open and the inlet hoses are not kinked — The cheapest check on the list and one of the commonest causes, especially after anything has been moved behind the machine.
- Redistribute the load by hand and restart at the spin — If the cycle then completes, the machine was refusing an unbalanced spin and nothing is broken.
- Record any code the display shows before clearing it — The machine has already done part of the diagnosis; clearing the code without reading it throws that away.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the machine and let it stand before you reach inside. The heating element and the motor stay hot after a long cycle, and the drum can free-wheel for a while after the cycle ends.

When to call a technician
Get a technician if the machine trips the breaker, if you smell anything hot, or if water has reached the mains socket. Electrical faults in a wet cabinet do not improve by being run again.
