The short answer
A Bosch HBN oven door has three things that can go wrong: the seal, the hinges and the glass assembly. On the four models listed below the seal hardens with age, the hinges settle so the door no longer sits square, and the glass can mist between panes. Each of those has a different consequence and a different repair.
What you observe on these models
- A visible gap along one edge with the door closed — Look along the line of the door against the frame at eye level.
- Browning that is consistently pale on one side — Heat escaping where the seal is failing, which shows up as a pattern rather than a fault.
- The front of the appliance is hotter than it used to be — Heat that should stay in the cavity is coming out at the door.
- The seal is hard, flattened or torn at a corner — Corners go first because that is where the compression is highest.

Causes, most likely first on the HBN family
- Hinge wear and a door that no longer sits square — First on the four models below where the symptom includes a door that needs pushing to latch. Alignment failures produce both the heat loss and the intermittent cycle refusals, which is why they outrank the gasket here.
- Gasket ageing — Second, and the more common finding overall: hard, flat or torn at a corner after years of heat.
- Glass and inner panel — Third. Fixings loosen, the inner panel shifts, and the door meets the frame differently.
- Frame and cabinet fit — Last, and worth checking where the appliance was recently installed: a cabinet that is not square holds the appliance out of true.
Check in this order, and why
- First: check whether the door sits square — Look at the gap along the top and both sides. An even gap is alignment; an uneven one names the hinge that has dropped.
- Second: test the seal by feel and by paper — Both tests, because a gasket can look perfect and have gone hard, and a soft gasket on a dropped door still leaks.
- Third: check the latch behaviour — A door that needs a push to latch is out of alignment, and on the four models below that also explains cycles that refuse to start.
- Fourth: reseat anything that has come out of its channel — Cold oven, hands only. A gasket lifted out at one point often pushes back in, and that is a complete repair.

Work only on a cold appliance, and isolate it at the breaker before removing anything; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Oven door hinges store energy - treat a door that has been taken off its hinges as a trap rather than a panel. If the inner glass is cracked, stop using the oven rather than working around it.
