The short answer
On Bosch TF microwaves the first question is whether the panel is lit. A dark panel is a supply question and is often solved at the outlet; a lit panel that refuses is the door or a lock setting. On the six models listed below that single observation splits the whole diagnosis before you touch anything.
What you observe on these models
- The panel is dark and nothing responds — Supply first: the outlet, the breaker, and whether anything else on that circuit works.
- The display lights but start does nothing — The appliance is alive and refusing, which means the door or a lock.
- It runs if you press the door while starting — The clearest possible result: the latch is not engaging the interlocks on its own.
- A lock or child-lock symbol is showing — A deliberate feature, and easy to engage while wiping the panel.
- NEAR MISS - it starts and then stops after a few seconds — That is a different fault, and it usually involves the door opening the interlock mid-cycle.
Causes, most likely first on the TF family
- Door latch and the interlock chain — First on the TF family. The latch gates everything, it is operated many times a day, and it wears at the catch rather than breaking. The door then closes, looks shut, and never tells the interlocks it is shut.
- Control lock or a setting — Second. Child lock, demonstration mode or a clock that needs setting all leave the appliance alive and unwilling.
- Supply and the outlet — Third where the panel is lit, first where it is dark. Countertop appliances share circuits with kettles and toasters, and a marginal outlet shows up as a machine that will not commit.
- Control board and the touch panel — Last. A membrane that has failed produces keys that do not respond, and it is the only group here that needs a technician.
Check in this order, and why
- First: look at the panel, not the cavity — Dark means supply; lit and refusing means door or lock. This splits the diagnosis in one observation.
- Second: press the door firmly and start — If it runs this way, the latch is not engaging on its own and the appliance needs attention at the door.
- Third: clear every lock and set the clock — Hold the lock key, cancel any active mode, set the time if it is asking, and enter a fresh cook time.
- Fourth: unplug for a minute, then retry — A full power cycle clears held control states that nothing on the panel will.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the microwave before cleaning or moving it, and never remove the cabinet: the capacitor inside can hold a lethal charge long after the appliance is unplugged. Never tape, wedge or otherwise defeat a door latch to make the appliance run - on a microwave the door is part of the shielding, and a machine that runs with a defeated interlock is dangerous in a way no other appliance is.
