The short answer
On a countertop BodegaCooler the surface it stands on is usually the instrument, not the fault. Move it onto something solid before suspecting the machine. If your unit has no compressor, every sound it makes is the fan - and a fan that has collected dust is the commonest real fault.
What you observe
- A drumming that stops if you lift the unit slightly — The worktop or shelf is resonating, not the cooler.
- A constant fan whirr with no cycling — Typical of a unit that cools without a compressor.
- A whirr that rises to a rattle over weeks — A fan collecting dust or a blade catching its guard.
- A click and hum as cooling starts and stops — A small compressor cycling. Normal if your unit has one.
- NEAR MISS - a faint trickling sound — Refrigerant settling in a compressor unit. Normal, and no repair.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- The surface the cooler stands on — First on a countertop unit by a wide margin. A light cabinet cannot damp itself, so a hollow counter, a thin shelf or a desk turns an ordinary fan into an audible hum through the whole room.
- A dusty or obstructed fan — Second, and the commonest real fault in this class. The fan runs continuously on many of these units, and dust on the blade unbalances it into a rattle.
- Feet that are missing, worn or uneven — Third. The rubber feet are what isolate the cabinet from the surface; once one is lost the unit is effectively bolted to the counter.
- Contents rattling inside a small cabinet — Fourth. A can standing against a shelf edge in a cabinet this size is clearly audible across a room.
- A failing compressor, where the unit has one — Last, and uncommon. A low knock present whenever it runs, unaffected by moving the unit.
Check in this order, and why
- Lift the unit an inch off the surface while it runs — If the noise largely disappears, the surface was the instrument.
- Move it onto a solid surface or a dense mat — The cheapest fix on this page and often the only one needed.
- Look at the rear vent and fan for dust — Visible, and free to clear.
- Check all four feet are present and level — One missing foot changes everything on a light cabinet.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the cooler before cleaning the vent or moving it - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off even on a small unit. Never poke anything through the fan guard while the unit is plugged in. Keep the vents clear at all times: a countertop cooler pushed back against a wall or a tile splashback overheats its own module or compressor, and that is a fire risk rather than merely a noise problem.
When to call a technician
Call, or consider replacement, when the unit is on a solid surface, the vent is clear, the feet are sound and a grinding or knocking persists. On a cabinet this size the part price and the labour usually approach the price of the unit, so ask for both before committing. Call immediately if you smell hot plastic or the case is too hot to touch, and unplug it while you wait.
