The short answer
Water at a Bertazzoni FRZ freezer is meltwater that could not reach its drain, in the great majority of cases. On a dedicated freezer there is no ice-maker supply line on most builds, which removes the one urgent cause a refrigerator has and makes the diagnosis simpler than the brand-generic page can assume.
What an owner actually sees
- Water standing on the cabinet floor or under the bottom basket — The drain trough has backed up and the meltwater has found the lowest point inside the liner instead.
- A sheet of ice growing on the cabinet floor — Meltwater that refroze where it stood. Chipping it out without clearing the drain buys a week at most.
- A puddle at the front edge that returns every day or two — The interval is the tell: it tracks the defrost cycle rather than the weather or how often the door is opened.

What it usually turns out to be, in order
- Defrost drain blocked with ice or debris — First on this family and by a wide margin. The drain inlet is the coldest point on the route from evaporator to pan, so it closes with a plug of ice that grows back after every thaw unless the trough itself is cleared properly.
- Door seal deformed, or the door not closing square — Second, and higher here than on a refrigerator. A dedicated freezer is opened rarely, so a marginal seal admits humid air unnoticed for months, and the condensate it produces is exactly the water the drain then cannot cope with.
- Drain pan cracked, displaced or overfilled — Third. The pan sits over the compressor and evaporates what the drain delivers.
- Manual-defrost cabinet simply overdue for a defrost — Fourth, and not a fault at all on the builds that ask for it. Accumulated frost eventually sheds and melts faster than the cabinet can handle, and the owner reads it as a leak.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Dry everything and mark where the water starts — Paper towel inside the cabinet, at the front edge and behind the unit, then wait a day.
- 2. Switch the freezer off for a day with the contents moved — A drain fault stops when defrost stops.
- 3. Clear the defrost drain trough with warm water — Pour slowly and never probe with metal — the trough sits against the evaporator.
Read this before touching the appliance
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The hazard here is water and electricity rather than the appliance: dry the floor before you kneel on it, and if water has reached a receptacle or a lead, switch the circuit off at the panel before touching anything.

Owner fix or service call
Call if water keeps arriving with the appliance switched off, because on the builds that have a fill line that is a pressurised leak and it does damage on its own schedule. Call as well if the drain clears and closes again within a week, which means the defrost system is producing more water than it should. Clearing a trough, reseating a pan, testing a seal and completing an overdue manual defrost are owner work on this family.
