The short answer

Causes, most likely first on this brand
- Ice over the evaporator after a stalled defrost — First, and it accounts for most cases on this platform. The coil ices, the fan can no longer pull air through it, and the refrigerator section starves while the freezer stays cold from proximity alone.
- A dust-blanketed condenser at the back — Second: a condenser that cannot reject heat leaves the compressor running continuously and losing ground on warm days. It is the easiest thing on this list to fix and the most often neglected.
- A door seal that is not holding — Third. A gasket deformed by a heavy door bin, or a cabinet leaning slightly forward, admits humid air that feeds the ice above and raises the load at the same time.
- A sealed-system or compressor fault — Last, and the only cause requiring a licensed technician. It is also the least likely, which is precisely why the three above are checked first.

- Compare the two compartments — A cold freezer with a warm fridge names the iced evaporator immediately.
- Listen for the evaporator fan with the door switch held — No fan noise, or a ticking fan, supports the same conclusion.
- Check the condenser for dust and the seal with paper — Both are quick, free and frequently the contributing cause.
- Only then treat it as a sealed-system fault — That needs gauges, and it ends the owner sequence.

Never chip, scrape or hot-air ice off the evaporator; the tubing is thin and a puncture is unrepairable. Treat moving a tall cabinet as a two-person lift, and do not tip it far enough for the compressor oil to migrate.
When to call a technician
Call when a full defrost restores cooling and the ice returns within days: that is the defrost heater, its thermostat or the control board, and it is meter work behind the freezer panel. Call also when the condenser stays cold while the compressor runs, which points at the sealed system. A compressor that clicks and falls silent every few minutes is an urgent call rather than a wait-and-see.
