The short answer
A new noise from a Beko-Blomberg freestanding cabinet usually comes from the evaporator fan behind the freezer rear panel, most often because ice has grown into its path. That is a defrost problem announcing itself as a noise. A rattle you can change by touching the cabinet is a much smaller matter, and the compressor is the last suspect.
What you observe
- A rhythmic tick or scraping from inside the freezer — The fan blade is striking ice on each revolution.
- The noise stops the moment you open the freezer door — The fan is switched off by the door, which confirms it as the source.
- A rattle that changes when you press the cabinet side — Panel resonance or something resting on top of the unit.
- NEAR MISS — a click every few minutes with no hum after it — That is the compressor cutting out on its overload, and it is a cooling fault.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- Ice grown into the evaporator fan path — First on a frost-free chassis and unmistakable once you know the test: open the freezer door and the noise stops, because the door switch cuts the fan. Ice in the fan path means the defrost cycle is not clearing the coil properly.
- A fan blade fouled by packaging — Second: a bag or a label drawn against the rear grille sits in the airflow and ticks against the blade. It is harmless and takes a minute to clear.
- Cabinet resonance or items stored on top — Third, and common in a narrow kitchen slot. A tall cabinet touching a worktop or a wall turns an ordinary compressor hum into a drumming.
- A condenser fan or compressor fault — Last. A worn condenser fan bearing whirrs from the back of the cabinet rather than the inside, and a genuine compressor noise almost always arrives with a cooling complaint.
Check in this order, and why
- Open the freezer door while the noise is happening — If it stops instantly, the evaporator fan is the source and the cause is ice or debris.
- Look at the freezer rear panel for a frost sheet — A heavy build-up there confirms a defrost problem rather than a fan fault.
- Press each outer panel and lift anything stored on top — This resolves the resonance cases at no cost.
- Listen at the back of the cabinet last — A whirr from behind is the condenser fan, not the evaporator fan.

Safety
Unplug the cabinet before removing the freezer rear panel or working at the condenser — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip or lever ice off the evaporator; the tubing is thin-walled and a puncture ends the appliance. Do not defeat the freezer door switch to watch the fan run with the door open, and treat moving a tall cabinet as a two-person job.
When to call a technician
Call when a full defrost restores both cooling and quiet and the noise then returns within days, because that means the defrost heater, its thermostat or the control is not clearing the coil. Call also for a whirr or grind from the back of the cabinet, which is a fan motor or compressor. A repeating click with a warming cabinet should be treated as urgent rather than as a noise complaint.
