The short answer
Before treating a Beko BFR refrigerator as faulty, find out how cold the room around it is. These are tall European-format cabinets that frequently end up in garages, utility rooms and unheated hallways, and a cabinet in a cold room can stop calling for cooling altogether - which leaves the freezer below slowly thawing while the fridge above looks perfectly normal.
What you observe
- The freezer is thawing while the fridge seems fine, in a cold room — The signature of the cold-ambient failure mode rather than a component fault.
- The compressor almost never runs in winter — Confirms the same thing: the cabinet is not being asked to cool.
- Both compartments warming in a warm room — The condenser, the defrost system or the sealed system.
- One compartment warm with the other cold, in a warm room — That compartment's door seal or its airflow.
- NEAR MISS - silent and warming with power present — Nothing is running at all, which is a start-relay or control fault.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Room too cold for the cabinet — First on this family because of where these cabinets get installed. It is not a fault, and no part will fix it.
- Condenser starved of air — Second. A tall narrow cabinet pushed into an alcove or hard against a wall recirculates its own heat.
- Door gasket not sealing along a full-height door — Third, and usually alignment rather than wear on a door this tall.
- Frost or a stopped fan blocking airflow — Fourth, and the reason one compartment warms while the other holds.
- Stalled defrost or sealed-system fault — Last, and the only pair that needs instruments.

- Read both compartment temperatures — Second. One warm or both warm routes the rest of the diagnosis.
- Pull the cabinet clear of the wall for a day — Third, and free: a condenser breathing its own warm air produces this with nothing broken.
- Test the gaskets with paper at top and bottom — Fourth. Grip at the top with release at the bottom is a racked door.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip ice off an evaporator with a metal tool - the tubing is soft aluminium and a puncture ends the cabinet. Do not use a heater aimed directly at the cabinet to warm a cold room; heat the room, not the appliance.

When to call a technician
Call once the room is warm, the cabinet has air and the gaskets seal, and a manual defrost has restored cooling only for the ice to return. Call immediately if you see oil at the compressor or smell burning.
