- The compressor runs continuously and never cycles off — A unit that never reaches its target keeps running, so continuous operation is a symptom of the fault and not a cause of it.
- A sheet of frost on the freezer rear wall — Not the usual light dusting but a solid layer, which is what a stalled defrost cycle builds over several weeks. The models in the table behave the same way here.
- NEAR MISS: the cabinet is silent and nothing is cold — That is a no-power or start fault rather than an airflow one, and the running-but-not-cooling logic on this page does not apply.
Causes, most likely first
- A frosted evaporator from a stalled defrost cycle — First on the BAF line because the adaptive defrost on this platform degrades before it fails: the ice builds quietly over weeks, airflow falls away, and the owner notices the warmth long before they notice the frost. That holds across every model this page covers.
- A failed evaporator fan motor — Second because the fan sits behind the freezer rear panel and is the part that wears on these cabinets. It produces the same warm fresh-food compartment with no frost sheet to show for it, which is how the two are told apart. That is true of every model this family spans.
- Blocked vents from overpacking — Boxes pressed against the rear freezer wall or the fresh-food return vent stop circulation with nothing wrong with the machine. It is the most common cause that needs no repair at all.

When to call a technician
