A Beko BBM cabinet that hums steadily and no longer keeps food cold is reporting an airflow problem in the large majority of cases. Because the fresh-food compartment is fed by air from the freezer evaporator, it is always the compartment that warms first, and a freezer that still feels cold is not evidence that the system is healthy.
What owners actually see
- Items at the back of the fresh-food side freeze — Across the whole of this line, cold air short-circuiting into one area while the rest warms, which is a duct or damper pattern rather than a system fault.
- The door was left open for a long period recently — A single long opening can load an evaporator with enough moisture to ice it, and the effects arrive days later.
- The condenser area is thick with dust or pet hair — A matted coil cannot shed heat, so the compressor runs longer for less effect and the cabinet loses ground slowly. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.
- NEAR MISS: water is pooling under the crisper drawers — A drain fault, covered on the water-leak page for this family, although a heavy frost build can cause both.
Ranked causes on this line
- A frosted evaporator from a stalled defrost cycle — First on the BBM line because the adaptive defrost on this platform degrades before it fails: the ice builds quietly over weeks, airflow falls away, and the owner notices the warmth long before they notice the frost. Every model in this family behaves this way.
- A failed evaporator fan motor — Second because the fan sits behind the freezer rear panel and is the part that wears on these cabinets. It produces the same warm fresh-food compartment with no frost sheet to show for it, which is how the two are told apart. The models in the table behave the same way here.
- A door that is not sealing — A tired gasket or a door held ajar by a shelf item loads the cabinet with warm humid air continuously, which both warms the compartment and accelerates the frost build that causes the primary fault.
- A damper or duct held open or closed — The path between the evaporator and the fresh-food compartment is regulated, and a damper stuck either way produces a compartment that is far too warm or unexpectedly freezing.
- A failed defrost heater or thermostat — Last because it presents exactly like the frost build above it and can only be separated with meter work behind the freezer panel. Manually clearing the ice restores cooling for a few weeks either way, which is why the recurrence is the diagnostic.
The diagnostic order
- Listen at the freezer for the evaporator fan — First because it separates the two likeliest causes on the BBM line before any tool comes out, and because the fan is audible with the freezer door open and the switch held. That holds across every model this page covers.
- Look at the freezer rear panel for a frost sheet — Second: a solid layer confirms the airflow cause when the fan is running, and its thickness tells you how long the defrost has been stalled.
- Hold a hand at the fresh-food vents — Across the models this page covers, moving air means circulation is intact and the fault is elsewhere; still air with a running compressor names the fault immediately.
Safety first
Safety
Switch off at the breaker first. Leave all refrigerant work to a licensed technician, and if you can see oil at the compressor or the tubing, stop and leave the appliance switched off rather than running it to see whether it improves.

Where the owner line is
Stop and call if the cabinet is warm throughout, the compressor is running and the condenser is stone cold. That pattern points at the sealed system and every hour of running after it costs more to put right. It does not vary across the models listed on this page.
