The short answer
On a Beko VD dryer a cycle that ends early or never advances is a sensing fault far more often than a control fault. These are compact vented dryers, and their automatic cycles end on what the moisture bars and the thermistor report, not on a clock - so a restricted duct or a film on the bars reproduces the symptom exactly. One timed cycle usually settles the question before a tool comes out.
What you observe
- The automatic cycle ends in minutes with the load still wet — The drum turns and the cabinet is warm, yet the display reports the cycle complete.
- The cycle stalls and adds time instead of counting down — The control is waiting for a dryness reading slow exhaust will not deliver.
- A timed cycle dries the load normally — The decisive observation on this family: it clears the heater, motor and board at once.
- Clothes are hot outside and damp in the folds — Air is heating but not moving through the load at the rate the sensing expects.
- NEAR MISS - the drum turns but never gets warm — That is a heating fault and the heating page covers it.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Restricted or crushed exhaust duct — First here, because the compact cabinet is installed where the duct gets folded flat behind it. Slow exhaust stretches or aborts automatic cycles while leaving a timed cycle looking healthy.
- Film on the moisture sensor bars — Second, and a direct consequence of the short drum: the load rubs the bars on every rotation.
- Thermistor or cycling thermostat out of range — Third. The control cross-checks exhaust temperature against the moisture reading, so a drifting sensor makes it end cycles early.
- Door switch dropping out mid-cycle — Fourth, and specific to stacked installs: a cabinet flexing on its mounting eases the small VD strike out of the switch.
- Control board — Last, and the only one of the five that is not an owner check.
Check in this order, and why
- Run one timed cycle start to finish — It splits the fault in half for free. Drying on a timed cycle confines the problem to sensing.
- Clear the lint filter, then pull the duct off the back — Second because on a compact vented cabinet this is the likeliest single cause and needs no tools.
- Wipe the two moisture bars inside the door opening — Third only, since it fixes nothing if the exhaust is restricted. Rubbing alcohol on a cloth lifts the film.
- Latch the door in the position the machine actually sits in — The stacked or closet install is what misaligns the strike, so test it there, not after pulling the machine out.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and on a compact dryer the control sits just behind the front panel. Never tape or bridge the door switch to watch the drum turn - it cuts the heater as well as the motor.

When to call a technician
Call once a timed cycle has proven the machine dries and the duct and bars are clean, because what remains is a thermistor, a thermostat or a board and all three need a meter. Call sooner if the cabinet is stacked and you cannot separate it safely, or if it trips its breaker during a cycle.
