What this usually means
Before anything is dismantled, find out whether the pump runs at all. A drain phase you can hear working against a blockage is a very different fault from one that is silent. On the BDDDT line specifically, the platform's layout is what decides which of those gets checked first.
Signs and near misses on a BDDDT unit
- Dirty water and food debris floating in the tub — The filter is not holding and the sump is likely full. Read this one against the BDDDT models listed below.
- The sink backs up when the dishwasher drains — A shared waste that is partly blocked, and the dishwasher is the innocent party.
- Dishes are dirty as well, with food baked back on — The consequence of washing in water that never left, which is why drainage is checked before cleaning complaints.
- NEAR MISS: water is on the floor rather than in the tub — That is a leak and it belongs on the leak page.
Causes in likelihood order on the BDDDT line
- A filter and sump packed with food debris — Ranked first, and it is the most common cause of every complaint this appliance produces. Where to start, and why

- Bail the water out and pull the filter — The condition of the filter and the sump beneath it answers the question most of the time.
- Pull the machine out and check the drain hose for kinks — A hose crushed behind the unit is invisible from the front and obvious from the back.
- Confirm the drain hose rises to a high loop before falling to the waste — Without it, drained water siphons back into the tub.
Isolate it first

Power off at the plug or the breaker first, and leave it off while you work in the tub. Standing water after a cycle can still be hot. The door interlock and its wiring are part of how the machine is built: leave them exactly as they are.
