What this usually means
On the Aviva ALWF washing machine line, most washing-machine leaks are found at the front: the door seal fold, the detergent drawer, and the pump filter cover. All three are owner-checkable and two of them need no tool. What changes against the brand-generic answer is the order of the checks, not the list of causes.
What you observe on a ALWF unit
- Foam escaping from the drawer or around the door — Overdosing rather than a fault, and one correctly dosed cycle proves it. Read this one against the ALWF models listed below.
- A slow drip behind the machine that never stops — Supply side, under mains pressure, and present whether the machine runs or not.
- A rumbling noise alongside the leak — That combination suggests the drum bearing seal, which is the serious version of this fault.
- NEAR MISS: water standing inside the drum instead — That is a drainage fault and belongs on the drainage page.
Causes in likelihood order on the ALWF line
- Too much detergent, or the wrong kind — Ranked first because it is the most common and the most completely free: foam climbs past the drawer and the door seal and lands on the floor from a healthy machine. On the ALWF models this stays at the top because nothing about the platform makes it less likely.
- A filter cover not refitted squarely — A very common cause immediately after somebody has cleaned the filter, and the leak is right at the bottom front.
- A failed drum bearing seal or a split tub — Last, and the only one that is not owner work. It leaks from underneath at the back and it arrives with a rumble.
Where to start, and why
- Halve the detergent dose and run one cycle — Free, fast, and it settles the foam question conclusively. The ALWF layout is the reason it comes first here.
- Dry the floor, lay paper, and run a short cycle — Where the first drop lands is worth more than where the puddle ended up.
- Check the inlet hose fittings and their washers by hand — Look for mineral trails, which mark a slow leak that predates the puddle.
- Note when in the cycle the leak appears — Fill, wash, spin or drain — each points at a different component.
Isolate it first

Disconnect power, shut the taps, and dry the area first. A washing machine is very heavy at the back: get help to pull it out, and never tilt it onto its hoses or its door.
