For a ALWF unit: unbalanced loads are the commonest cause of a cycle that never finishes: the machine tries to redistribute, fails, retries, and eventually gives up rather than spinning a lopsided drum. That is the same list the brand-generic page carries, in a different order.
What you observe on a ALWF unit
- The cycle stops early with the drum dry — A fill fault: the machine is waiting for water that has not arrived. On these ALWF models it is the observation that decides the order.
- The timer sits on the same reading for a long time — Many machines hold the display while they wait for a condition rather than counting down.
- It completes short cycles but not long ones — That points at heating or at a fault that only appears once the machine is working hard.
- NEAR MISS: the cycle completes but the load is soaking — That is drainage or spin, and the drainage page covers it.
What it usually turns out to be on the ALWF line
- An unbalanced load the machine cannot spin — Ranked first. The machine tries to redistribute, fails, retries and abandons the spin, and the cycle never completes. A single heavy item is the usual culprit. The ALWF build does not move this one: its rank is the same here as on the brand-generic page.
- A door lock that is not reporting closed — The machine pauses rather than continuing with a door it cannot verify, and the complaint is a cycle that stalls near the start.
- A heating fault on cycles that need heat — Distinctive because short cold cycles complete and long hot ones do not.
- A failed pressure switch, motor or control board — Last, and diagnosed by elimination. All three are tested electrically and none is owner work.
The order that narrows it
- Check both supply taps are fully open — A tap closed during unrelated plumbing work is a common and completely free cause. The ALWF layout is the reason it comes first here.
- Run the same cycle with a light, evenly spread load — A control test for balance, and it needs nothing but time.
- Cut the power at the breaker for several minutes and restore it — Clears a latched control, which is a real and common cause after an outage.
- Check whether short cold cycles complete — They usually do when the fault is heating, and that narrows it sharply.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before opening the filter or a panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is gone. Never try to force the door on a stalled cycle: the drum may still hold water and the lock releases when the level is safe, which is exactly how it is designed to behave.

Where the owner side ends
Call once supply, drainage, balance and a full power reset have all been eliminated and the cycle still stalls. What remains is the pressure switch, the heater, the motor or the control, and all are tested electrically. Call at once if the breaker trips.
