- High-voltage diode or capacitor failure — Second. These feed the magnetron, and when one fails the oven behaves identically — runs, lights, turns and does not heat — sometimes with a loud hum added.
- Door interlock monitoring circuit — Third: on many designs the oven will run its fan and light while withholding the high-voltage side if the interlocks do not agree, which reads as a heating fault but is really a door fault.
- Thermal cut-out opened — Fourth. A cut-out that has opened because of a blocked vent or a run with nothing in the cavity leaves the oven running cold until it is found and the cause cleared.

- Confirm it really is not heating — Heat a cup of water for a minute or two on full power and feel it. It removes the ambiguity of cold food in a cold dish.
- Check whether the oven has ever been run empty — Running with nothing inside stresses the magnetron directly, and it is the commonest owner-side cause of early failure.
- Check the vents are clear — A blocked vent overheats the cavity and can open a thermal device, which produces this exact symptom.
