The short answer
Before anything else, establish where the water is: inside the cabinet, on the floor at the front, or on the floor at the back. On the Avanti URBD models covered here those three locations point at three different causes, and confusing them is what turns a ten-minute fix into a service call.
What you observe on these models
- Water inside the cabinet, at the bottom — Condensate that could not leave.
- Water on the floor at the back — That is the machine bay and the pan in it.
- Beads or runs on the outside of the door — Room humidity condensing on a cold surface.
- A steady clean drip rather than an occasional pool — Clean and steady suggests a supply connection on a plumbed model.
- NEAR MISS — oily fluid at the machine bay — That is not water.
Causes, most likely first on URBD
- A blocked defrost drain — This is the leak that looks worst and costs least. Melt water backs up over the drain lip and runs forward, so the water appears inside the cabinet or on the floor at the front. The drain on a cabinet this size is short, shallow and reachable, which makes this both the likeliest cause and the easiest to clear. First on this family. On an undercounter beverage cabinet the path this fault travels is shorter and more exposed than the generic advice assumes.
- Condensation at the door — A door that no longer seals condenses room moisture on the cold face and drips. The tell is water that is worst along one edge and after a humid day.
- The evaporation pan in the machine bay — The pan under the cabinet is meant to evaporate what the drain delivers. If it is cracked, displaced or being fed faster than it can evaporate, the water lands on the floor at the back.
- The cabinet is not level — A cabinet leaning forward sends its drain water the wrong way. This converts a machine that was working into one that leaks, with no part having failed at all. Last on this list, and the item that every cause above it can imitate exactly.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Map the water before touching anything — Dry everything, put paper towel at the front, the back and inside the base, and come back in a day. Knowing where it arrives eliminates most of the list.
- Put a level on the cabinet, front to back — A cabinet leaning the wrong way defeats a drain that is otherwise perfectly clear. This is the cheapest cause and the most frequently skipped check.
- Find the drain outlet and confirm it flows — Nothing is reached from the back while the unit is in its slot: it comes forward onto the floor first, and the grille at the base comes off before anything else does. Pour a small amount of warm water down it and watch for it to arrive in the pan.
- Check the door seal all the way round — Condensation follows a bad seal, and a seal that produces ice in winter produces water in summer. Same fault, different season.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or reaching into the machine bay — water and mains wiring share that space. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. This cabinet is heavier than it looks and it is a two-person pull out of a built-in slot; get it clear of the cabinetry on a mat before working on it, and never work on it half-out with the door hanging open.

When to call a technician
Call when the drain is clear, the cabinet is level, the pan is sound and the water still arrives — at that point the leak is inside the insulated shell and needs the cabinet opened. Call immediately if the fluid is oily rather than watery, if water is reaching an outlet or the machine bay wiring, or if the cabinet has tripped protection since the leak began.
