The short answer
Ice arriving slowly, hollow, fused into a block or not at all on the RMRT family is a temperature story far more often than a mechanism story, and that is where this page starts. Before anything else, establish which kind of ice complaint this is: nothing coming out of an automatic ice maker, or ice appearing as frost in places it has no business being.
What you observe on these models
- Water arriving but never freezing into shape — Where a model fills and then fails to release, the water is reaching the mould and the cold is not finishing the job in the time the cycle allows.
- Ice arriving slowly, or hollow and small — Partial production is a temperature or a water-volume complaint. The mechanism is working; it is being given either too little time or too little water.
- A solid bridge of ice across the storage bin — Cubes that have fused together have melted and refrozen, which means the compartment has been swinging above and below freezing rather than sitting steady.
- NEAR MISS - the ice maker is noisy but working — Filling and harvesting are both audible events on any model that has them, and a working cycle is not a fault however loud it sounds.
Causes, most likely first on this platform
- Frost mistaken for an ice fault — A number of the entries catalogued here were never fitted with an automatic ice maker. On those, what reaches us as an ice fault is almost always frost forming where it should not, and that is a sealing and airflow question. Because every entry here sits on one base, what you find inside one of them you will find inside all of them, and whether there is an ice maker at all is the fork that decides the rest of the page.
- Temperature, before anything mechanical — Second on this platform. Temperature stays on the list even when the mechanism is clearly at fault, because a compartment running warm turns every other marginal cause into a visible one.
- A control that says stop — Third here. It stays worth a glance at any point: an arm resting up or a switch left off produces a total stoppage with nothing wrong at all.
- A frozen fill tube or a jammed cube — Fourth. Clear a jam before condemning anything, and note that it is usually the visible consequence of a temperature swing rather than a fault of its own.
- Supply line, shutoff and fill valve — Last. Where a model is plumbed, the supply remains worth checking, particularly after the unit has been moved, because a kinked line behind a cabinet is invisible until it is pulled out.
Check in this order, and why
- Establish whether this model has an ice maker at all — Look for a mould, a bail arm and a fill tube rather than for a badge. If none of those are there, the rest of this page collapses into a temperature and sealing question. All 6 entries in the table below sit on one base, so what this check tells you holds for every one of them.
- Put a thermometer in the freezing compartment — Give it several hours undisturbed. Anything above 0 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 18 degrees Celsius) explains slow, hollow or absent ice on its own, and explains it before any part does.
- Check the door is closing and the seal is intact — Warm humid air reaching a freezing compartment makes frost, softens ice and bridges cubes together, and it does all three before it makes the cabinet feel warm.
Before you open anything
Safety
Power down at the plug or the breaker first, and give it a moment before reaching behind anything. Do not use a hairdryer or a heat gun inside the cabinet to shift ice; the liner deforms long before the ice goes. Do not defeat any interlock to keep the mechanism turning while you watch it.

When to call a technician
Bring someone in once the free checks are clean and the mechanism still will not cycle, because the remaining causes need a meter and a panel off. Do not wait at all if the cabinet has stopped holding temperature more generally, because at that point ice is the least of it and the food is the priority.
