The short answer for AVAR models
A new noise from an Avanti AVAR refrigerator is worth diagnosing rather than living with, because two of the common causes are wear that accelerates. A fan bearing that has started to grind will seize; a condenser fan that has stopped turning will cook the compressor.
What you actually observe
- A whine that gets louder over weeks rather than overnight — A dry bearing in one of the two fans, and the noise is the only warning you will get before it seizes.
- A sharp crack from the walls in the first hour after installation — Plastic liners taking up temperature. It settles and is not a fault.
- A rattle that stops when you lean on the cabinet — A loose drip tray, a levelling foot off the floor, or a panel screw that has backed out.
- A buzz for a minute or two twice a day, then silence — The ice maker fill valve. Normal unless the buzz continues with no water arriving.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is also warming up — Noise plus lost cooling is one fault, not two, and the cooling page is where it is diagnosed.

Call a technician when the checks above have not changed anything, when the fault needs a meter on live terminals, or when the answer turns out to be the sealed system.
